The First Generation Faculty Initiative hosts twice yearly lunch workshops in fall and spring quarter. These meetings feature short lectures and presentations by scholars/experts on topics of importance to first-generation students; information sessions led by representatives of campus Student Support Service offices/organizations; or other relevant training sessions on how to best advocate for first-generation students. Meetings also provide faculty members with opportunities for discussion and networking.

Fall 2017

#IamFirst Day

Date: October 4, 2017

Time: 11am-2pm

Location: Student Center Terrace

#IamFirst day is designed to celebrate our first generation student population on UCI’s campus, recognize those faculty and staff members who were first generation college students themselves, and to spotlight the experiences of our first generation students in order to foster a community for students in which they feel connected and supported. There will be a resource fair, music, performances, and 200 free t-shirts available throughout the event. 


Navigating UCI – A Panel Discussion with Successful First Generation College Students

Time: 1:00PM-2:00PM

Location: Student Services II, Room 1010AB

This event will consist of a panel of upper division first-generation college students speaking about their journey at UCI and providing advice on how to navigate the university. This opportunity is highly encouraged for students looking to gain insight on UCI through the perspective of an experienced first-generation college student.

A Zot Badge for the Antleader Certificate Program can be awarded for students that attend the event.
